The weather is colder, but we know how exactly what will keep our hearts warm. On Wednesday, November 15 from 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. we'll be serving up soups and warm drinks for you. All you need to do is bring your hungry belly to Sage and give us a smile!
As holiday season approaches, it’s perfect timing to update your portrait and to give to others!
October 21, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (THIS DATE IS FULLY BOOKED) + October 22, 9 a.m.-noon.
20-minute portrait session, $50 giving you downloadable images and provides a free session to a Stand Up KC family
The Sage Apothecary will transform into a professional studio with friend and professional photographer, Suzanne Corum-Rich, offering mini-portrait sessions. Each session is a 20-minute photoshoot, complete with a full online gallery and high resolution images available for download 10 days after the shoot. This not only gives your family a beautiful set of photos, it offers another family the chance to have one of their own.
For each portrait session you buy, a Stand Up KC family will get one for free, along with a framed 8x10 photo and a set of 8 wallets.
Stand Up KC is a diverse organization of fast food, retail, and other low wage workers from Kansas City, coming together to demand a living wage and a voice on the job. Stand Up KC is the local chapter of the national and international Fight for $15 movement, which started in NYC in 2012. Stand Up KC has, from its inception, identified as anti-racist and built a multi-racial movement of working class people fighting for equality, freedom, and justice for all.
In Missouri, the minimum wage is only $7.70/hour. Forty-six percent of all jobs in the American economy pay less than $15 per hour, and are disproportionately worked by women, immigrants and people of color. These low-paying jobs often lack basic benefits like health care, paid sick or vacation days and protection from discrimination and sexual harassment. From home care to retail to warehouses and fast food restaurants, millions of Americans work full-time but struggle to meet their basic needs, like food and rent.
The average cost of a family portrait session in the US is $250. Printing an 8x10 photo, a set of 8 wallets and an 8x10 frame could add an additional $50-100. For a low wage worker to afford a quality framed family portrait to hang on the wall, estimated at $350, they would have to work more than 45 hours (before taxes), almost a full week’s worth of pay.
When you book your session, you’re providing another family with the chance to have their own professional portrait session. Buy one, give one. That’s something worth smiling about!
On Saturday, September 16, 12:30-2:30 p.m. the Kansas City Center for Inclusion will be facilitating an LGBTQ sensitivity training at Sage that you and your friends and our entire community are invited to attend. This training will include transgender terms to know, importance of pronouns, deconstructing gender, and gender and sexuality as a spectrum. Our goal? To make our community as inclusive and open as possible, in hopes that we can not only make a difference in our immediate community but in KC, the midwest and our good ol' U S of A. Please consider attending and bringing a friend! No need to RSVP. Refreshments provided.

A workshop on the foundations of Ayurveda and applications for your healthiest life
with Dr. Sarah Kucera, Certified Ayurvedic Practitioners
Ayurveda is often considered a "natural medicine" due to the extensive use of food, plants, oils and bodywork for healing. What should not be overlooked is Ayurveda's way of reminding us that we are a part of nature and without respect to both nature's cycles and our own, we can become sick. Recognizing the patterns that leave us feeling out of balance along with those that make us feel better is essential and exactly what this workshop will cover. Improved health could be as simple as changing up your daily routine or adding a spice or quality of food to your diet.
$25, advanced registration is encouraged
Whether brand new to yoga or looking for some tips to fine tune your practice, this workshop is for you! We'll touch briefly upon the founding philosophical principles of yoga, including the yamas and niyamas (ethical restraints and observances), for a better understanding of how yoga differs from simply another Westernized workout. Physically, we'll cover the core asanas or postures that are often repeated in a yoga class so that you can confidently and safely attend a beginner level class. No experience required, only an open mind!
Come two by two! During this workshop, we will practice trust through giving and receiving Thai yoga massage. While you do need a partner, it is not limited to a lover. Bring a playful friend, a family member, even a "game on" stranger! Be sure to dress comfortably. We will provide blankets and mats if needed. All levels are welcomed and encouraged!
The well-being of our community is important to us. More than ever it is important to know that we are in this together. You are never alone. Let's come together to share conversations and boost our spirits, while simultaneously showing our support for those in our extended community. Have a photo session with professional photographer Suzanne Corum-Rich for $10 per person and receive a digital copy of your photos for your own personal use. All proceeds, along with 10% of our retail sales for the day, will go to Rose Brooks, Jewish Vocational Services and Operation Breakthrough. We'll have drinks courtesy of Boozy Botanicals (hold the booze) along with some eats and what we believe to be the best people on the planet--that's you!
Peace, Love and Waffles.
You're ALL invited! Stop by Sage between 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for a community gathering, complete with waffles! Wafel KC will be whipping up golden milk and chai waffles, both vegan and gluten-free, right before your very eyes. Come celebrate our love for our community, who is just like family.
Join us for this special event! On Monday, November 7, from 5:30-7 p.m., take an all levels flow yoga class with Jen Denslow, complete with live musical accompaniment from Krishna & Gershone (click here for more information on Krishna & Gershone). with Dr. Sarah Kucera, Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner
A well-functioning digestive tract is your most essential ally for maintaining healthy weight, hormone balance, sustained energy and overall health. As Ayurveda views our digestion like a fire, we'll take a look at the ways you could be appropriately stoking your fire or inadvertently smothering it. With this, we'll talk remedies for keeping your digestion strong and how to bring balance to a digestive system that is either variable, too sluggish or too fast.
$25, advance registration encouraged
New to yoga? Or has it simply been a while? Let's refine the connecting movements that we repeat so many times in our asana practice! Using both physical and energetic anatomy, we'll review and fine tune downward dog, plank, chatturanga, cobra and upward facing dog so that each asana can not only be practiced without risk of injury, but with full potency. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of practitioners.

Learn the Ayurvedic perspective on the formation of our tissues (dhatus), how to know when they are in a state of depletion or excess, and what to do about it.
with Dr. Sarah Kucera, Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner
Ayurveda holds a unique theory on the way our body forms tissues such as blood, muscle, fat and nerves. There is a sequence to how they are created, with the second tissue relying on the health of the first, the third relying on the health of the second, and so on. For example, if we don't have healthy blood, muscle will not be able to form properly. If we don't have healthy nerves, our reproductive system's health will suffer. This concept teaches us that the symptoms we experience may not be the only area of concern. Together, we'll review the tissues, their order of creation, signs and symptoms of depletion or excess, and how we can heal through food, herbs and routine.
