Initial Consultation and Exam
The exam on your first visit will include a health history, physical exam, posture evaluation, orthopedic testing and ranges of motion. Your lifestyle and activities of daily living will also be discussed. A diagnosis will be made and a treatment plan will be recommended. It is important that you are on board with your course of care, thus your input and active role in your treatment is vital. It is suggested that you inquire with your insurance company prior your first visit to determine coverage for chiropractic care. Dr. Kucera is currently an in-network provider for Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City in addition to serving as an out-of-network provider for other companies. Please inquire with us and your insurance carrier to determine how you may be reimbursed for some or all of your care.
Chiropractic Manipulation
Manipulation, or an adjustment, is a way of bringing proper motion back into a joint. This is helpful for our bodies as we fall into day-to-day patterns and behaviors that create imbalances in our body. Imbalances can be present in joints receiving too much motion or not enough. Either case can cause inflammation and muscle tightness. Pain can also result, but the best wellness practice is to receive regular check ups, even in the absence of pain, to keep your muscles and joints functioning properly. Manipulation can be done manually or with a low force, instrument assisted technique called Activator.
Graston Technique
In this technique, your doctor uses smooth stainless steel tools that are specifically designed to detect changes in tissues, such as scarring. Scar tissue and fibrotic changes in muscles can occur with an injury, poor posture or micro-traumas due to repetitive movements. This can limit range of motion and cause pain. Graston breaks down the scar tissue and enhances blood flow to the affected area in a way that is more effective than just using the hands. Patients receiving this treatment have been surprised at the increase motion or flexibility and are pleased to find relief from conditions that may otherwise require surgery.
Yoga Therapy
The application of yoga practices specific to the management of your existing condition and behaviors is yoga therapy. This therapy encompasses breath work, a regimen of yoga postures, the re-education of muscles and methods to bring your life into balance. This type of therapy is also very preventive in nature.
Private Yoga Sessions
Ideal as an introduction for a new yogi or for an experienced yogi in need of a tune-up, a private yoga session is 60 minutes of yoga flow for only you. You will learn key actions of poses and how each pose is really supposed to feel. Unlike our other services, private yoga sessions do not require and are not inclusive of an exam. Those who are seeking yoga as therapeutic relief for specific conditions are urged to make an appointment for an initial consultation and diagnostic exam.
Ayurveda
Consultations
Ayurveda is the "sister science" of yoga and is said to be the
oldest sustained form of medicine on the planet. It differs from
conventional medicine in that it pays great respect to each individual
as a unique being in nature while managing the ongoing imbalances we
endure from day to day, season to season, year to year. While Western
medicine has only recently adopted a multi-dimensional definition of
health (physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being), Ayurveda has
fully embraced and practiced this theory for thousands of years. A
large part of the practice is based on our dosha, our constitution
relative to physique, physiology, and psyche. Knowing your dosha helps
you to know thyself so that you can easily reverse directions when
headed down the wrong path. Your consultation will include a diagnosis
of your prakriti (your inherent constitution) and your vikruti (current
state of imbalance) and lifestyle changes such as diet, asanas, and
daily practices to restore health. 1 Hour Session: $75
