The Body's Energetic Pathways: Exploring Marma Points, Nadis, and Their Relationship to Asana, March 16-18

The energetic body is where the deeper dimensions of Hatha Yoga begin and is the realm we look to when we want to understand how the benefits of the physical practices affect more than our physique.  The energetic pathways (nadis) and energy capacitor points (marmas) are affected by the asanas we practice.  Knowing how they are related and affected, as well as how working with them affects our constitution (dosha), provides another teaching tool for extraordinary offerings.  This training covers a spectrum of topics from history to therapy.  For more information and registration, visit the Kansas Siddhi Yoga website.

Kalari is a martial arts practice from India that blends flowing movements with powerful movements.  This practice is strongly related to Ayurveda in that it is a practice used to heal the body.  Some of the static postures of Kalari resemble those that are practiced in yoga, but use a different energy and intent.  Drop in for $20 at KSY.

Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic treatment that brings balance to the subtle energy channels (nadis) in your body through which prana (energy) flows.  During a shirodhara session, warm organic, herb-infused oils are poured in a continuous stream across your forehead.  This technique eases you into a state of reduced anxiety and restoration while aiding in the relief of headaches and a much needed quieting of the untamed mind.

The specific movement of the oil across the forehead brings equanimity to our subtle energy body by balancing ida and pingala nadis and touching on marma points.  Ida nadi is the left energy channel through which our soft, feminine lunar energy flows.  Pingala nadi is the right energy channel and carries our strengthening, masculine, solar energy.  Marma points are energetic points located throughout your body where our doshas meet, where different tissues connect, and where consciousness meets matter.  A shirodhara treatment will help you soften and become more receptive when you need it, or energize you to sustain your activities and overall optimize the flow of prana through your being.
